Most of the world learns about Africa through a small set of images: famine, safari, colonial rescue, conflict. Most Africans learn their own history through curricula designed elsewhere, in languages imported elsewhere, that begin the story at contact with Europe. Both are failures of knowledge, and both have consequences — in confidence, in policy, in what young people believe is possible.

MOTHERLAND is an attempt at a knowledge institution rather than an app: a place where the origins of our species, the ironworks of Meroë, the libraries of Timbuktu, the ports of Kilwa, the resistance of Adwa, the mathematics of Ishango, the languages of two thousand peoples, the diaspora that carried them, and the decisions that will shape 2050 sit inside one connected structure.

It refuses two temptations. It will not flatten Africa into victimhood, and it will not replace erasure with invention. When the evidence is strong, it says so. When historians argue, it shows the argument. When knowledge is held orally, it says who holds it. That honesty is what makes the pride durable.

It is built for four people at once: the African child who has never been taught this; the person of the diaspora looking for a thread back; the curious reader anywhere; and the builder who wants to know what has already been tried on this continent before trying it again.
