Contribution terms
These terms apply when you voluntarily submit a story, recording, photograph, article or Knowledge Bank contribution to MOTHERLAND. You accept them at the point of submission, and the accepted version is stored with your contribution.
In plain English
You keep ownership of your work. We do not pay for voluntary community contributions. If you submit something, you allow MOTHERLAND to publish it and promote it, including through social media and paid advertising. You can choose your credit name or remain anonymous, and you can ask us to stop future use.
1.Voluntary contributions
Contributions are voluntary and unpaid. No payment, royalty or other compensation is owed for a community contribution unless we agree otherwise with you in a separate written agreement.
2.You keep ownership
You remain the owner of your contribution and any copyright or other rights you hold in it.
3.Permission you give MOTHERLAND
By submitting your contribution, you give MOTHERLAND a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to:
— receive, store, review and publish the contribution on the MOTHERLAND platform;
— reproduce, format, edit for length or clarity, translate and technically adapt it;
— display and distribute it through MOTHERLAND's website, applications, newsletters and educational materials;
— promote the contribution, MOTHERLAND and related platform features through organic and paid social media, advertising, press, email and other marketing channels.
This permission is needed so that MOTHERLAND can publish and promote community contributions. It does not transfer ownership to MOTHERLAND.
We may allow our hosting, publishing, advertising and distribution providers to use the contribution only as necessary to operate or promote MOTHERLAND. We will not sell or license your contribution for unrelated third-party use without your separate permission.
4.Removal and future use
You may ask us to remove your contribution or stop using it in future promotional materials. We will make reasonable efforts to remove it from the platform and stop new promotional use within a reasonable period.
Material already published, printed, distributed or placed in an active advertising campaign may remain available for a limited wind-down period. We may also retain archival or backup copies where reasonably necessary.
5.Credit
You may choose to be credited by your real name, a pseudonym or anonymously. If you choose to be credited, we will make reasonable efforts to display that credit.
6.Editing
We may make reasonable editorial, formatting, translation and accessibility changes. We will not intentionally change the meaning of your contribution or present it as something you did not say.
7.Your assurances
You confirm that:
— you created the contribution or have permission to submit it;
— it does not knowingly infringe another person's rights;
— you have permission from anyone identifiable in recordings, photographs or interviews;
— you will not submit confidential, private or sensitive information about another person without appropriate consent.
If a contribution involves a child, elder, interview participant or vulnerable person, we may ask for additional consent before publishing or promoting it.
8.Names, images and voices in promotion
Your contribution may be promoted without identifying you unless you give separate permission to use your name, image, likeness or voice in promotional material.
9.AI and training
MOTHERLAND will not use your contribution to train an external general-purpose AI model or create a synthetic version of your identity, voice or likeness without separate, specific consent.
10.Other arrangements
If MOTHERLAND commissions work, requests exclusive rights, or wants to use a contribution in merchandise, licensing or a separate commercial project, we will agree those terms separately with you.
