Haile Selassie I
The emperor who addressed the world and lost his own country.
Haile Selassie modernised the Ethiopian state, delivered one of the twentieth century's decisive moral speeches at the League of Nations after Italy invaded in 1936, helped found the Organisation of African Unity in his own capital, became a divine figure to Rastafari in Jamaica, and was deposed in 1974 by a revolution triggered in part by a famine his government concealed.

A divination system with a 256-chapter corpus.
Ifá is a Yoruba system of knowledge, ethics and divination organised around 256 odù, each with a body of verses, narratives, prescriptions and precedents memorised by babaláwo across many years of training. It is a binary-structured archive of accumulated case law and moral reasoning, it survived the Middle Passage into Cuba and Brazil, and UNESCO lists it as intangible cultural heritage of humanity.

African Iron
Furnaces, bloomeries and a metallurgical tradition of its own.
African smiths built tall natural-draught furnaces that reached extraordinary temperatures without bellows, and iron working reshaped agriculture, warfare, trade and social structure across the continent. Whether the technology was invented in Africa or transmitted into it remains one of the discipline's genuinely open questions.
